For over 25years Preston Unit has got the top award and has also regularly held the title for the Best Marines in the country!
All Parents are expected to attend the Inspection to support the Cadets and this Parade Night is compulsary for ALL Cadets.

Shooting is a highly skilled Sport. It takes personal discipline and knowledge to be good at shooting. Before a Cadet can undertake any form of shooting they have to be drilled in Normal Safety Procedures (NSP's) and must have a full knowlege of the weapon including its cleaning and maintenance. The Cadets are taught the Principles of Marksmanship so they can attain the highest standards of accuracy. An excellent sport to have fun and attain high standards of discipline.

On Sunday 16th July Cadets from Preston travelled to Wallasey Sea Cadet Unit for the North West Area Solo Drum and Solo Bugle Contest. Our entry was in the Solo Drumming. Preston result was 4th BRAVO ZULU.
This is a first for Preston, as we have never had an entry in the Drum Section. Other cadets from the Unit Band which meets every Monday at 1930 watched the Competition.
We are desperate for instruments. If anyone would like to donate, or provide funds for the cadets to purchase instruments. Please contact the unit on the email address below or write to the Commanding Officer at the address below.

On Saturday 8th July 2006 cadets from Preston Sea Cadets travelled to TS PALATINE, Hollingworth Lake for the North West Area Regatta in Pulling Boathandling, and various Sailing Races.
Whilst the Preston cadets did not achieve any medals, they did all enjoy the day, having fun and meeting new friends from around the North West. To all the Units that did win, Good Luck at the National Regattas.

North West Area Canoe Training Weekend. The first of two weekend training sessions for the North West Area team selection, for the squad that will represent the North West at the National Competition in London.
Ten Cadets from Preston are on the first weekend. More are expected to attend the second weekend, after they have returned from courses and have gained time off work.
Good luck to all this weekend. The weather looks good but you may miss the live England match again. I'm sure you will see it after your training.

We travelled on a 30 seater coach to Barrow in Furness and arrived in good time to see the finals of the North West Area Pulling Competition (our District Won!) and have dinner before taking to the water at 1400.
We had a combination of sun, light rain and a constant wind which grew stonger and cooler as the day went on, and to top it off we missed the England match.
However our canoeing team did extremely well everyone completed what was a difficult course, and most of our cadets even reached the finals and we won the Senior Boys and the Senior Girls! Well done to all the cadets who took part and good luck at Nationals.
More pics in the gallery.

Despite the bad weather the competition went ahead. Prestons Senior Girls came 2nd out of the 8 units in the District so well done to them, and the unit came second overall.
Good Luck to Fleetwood Unit at the Area Regatta!

Congratulations to the cadets who achieved British Canoe Union (BCU) One and Two Star Awards and also those training towards the BCU Three Star.
Also to those who returned early on Sunday Morning to be part of the North West Lancs District Pulling Regatta held on Preston Docks. See above report on the Pulling Regatta.

Middleton and Chadderton was the venue for the second weekend which was also the assessment weekend for the 4 cadets from Preston doing the Writer Stores 2nd Class and the 2 cadets taking the Cook Steward 2nd Class assessments. Well done to all six cadets who passed and are now qualified at 2nd Class level in the above Specialisations.

The National Field Assessment is held once a year to allow the Staff Royal Marine Officer to assess how a detachment lives and works under tactical conditions in the field.
This year was especially interesting as there was an Area Assessment to find candidates for the Gibraltar Cup (Best Detachment in the Country).
Our new tents added some comfort to the excersise and made the harbour area look very gucci.
The battle itself went well and gained us a final grading of "GOOD" the only better grading being a Very Good, so Bravo Zulu to the section for their efforts.
